The Door’s mission is to empower young people ages 12-24 to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services – health care, counseling, education, legal services, the arts and recreation – all for free and under one roof. The Door’s Legal Services Center represents young people in matters such as immigration, public benefits, housing and family law. We are a team of 13 attorneys, a social worker, a paralegal and an administrative assistant.
This position offers the opportunity to be part of an historic, city-wide effort to fight the mass removal of Central American children and youth. For more than fifteen years, The Door has been at the forefront of representing undocumented youth. In 2014, to meet the needs of unaccompanied children fleeing Central America for the United States, The Door expanded its work defending children in removal proceedings. Working closely with a small network of providers, we ensure that every unaccompanied child in removal proceedings is screened by an attorney and that a significant number receive the representation they need to obtain lawful status in the United States.
The Managing Attorney will lead the The Door’s Immigration Defense Team, a group of 4-6 attorneys and/or paralegals, while maintaining his/her own reduced caseload. The Managing Attorney will be responsible for all aspects of the team’s performance, including supervision, performance, and grant compliance.

The Door’s mission is to empower young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment.
Since 1972, The Door has helped a diverse and rapidly growing population of disconnected youth in New York City gain the tools they need to become successful, in school, work and in life.
While we pride ourselves on offering all of ...our services under one roof, The Door is also focused on impacting the lives of young people throughout the city - and the world - and, as such, has served as a model for other, similar organizations locally, nationally and internationally.
As the needs of New York City youth continue to shift and change, we work hard to shift our services in response.
