Our client, a publicly traded global technology company, is seeking an experienced and motivated product attorney to add to its growing legal department. This is a new position on the legal team and offers a broad range of responsibilities over an exciting line of historical and new products to the company. This person can work out of the Bay Area or San Diego office.
The title and level of experience is flexible, but attorneys should have at least seven years of experience including:
•Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements for technology companies.
•Ability to evaluate issues from legal and business perspectives with a practical, common sense approach to problem solving.
•Knowledge in relevant subject areas such as software and IP licensing, data privacy and security, etc., plus willingness to learn and become company subject matter authority in those areas.
•Ability to drive issues and projects cross-functionally.
•Extraordinary interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to sift through complicated issues and communicate only the important aspects in a clear and concise manner at all levels within the organization and across geographic lines.
•Comfortable and adept at balancing risk and opportunity; ability to think creatively to solve problems.
•Calm under pressure and able to handle multiple projects and priorities efficiently in a rapidly changing environment.
The product attorney will partner with internal teams to develop new and exciting products and innovative technologies while managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will also be called upon to lead and negotiate complex commercial relationships that contribute to the products’ success. Additional responsibilities include:
•Provide legal advice and guidance to Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Operations and Finance teams on issues related to new and existing products from the initial stages of product development to launch.
•Draft and negotiate commercial and intellectual property agreements affecting the company’s products and services.
•Remain up to date on relevant industry, consumer protection, advertising, IP, product security and privacy laws and regulations to ensure an ongoing ability to provide sound compliance advice.
•Provide practical and actionable advice in terms non-lawyers can understand into how the company can work within the law to craft amazing product experiences for its customers.
Our client values someone who can work autonomously, but also roll up his or her sleeves and “do your own grunt work”. S/he will have excellent attention to detail but not be uptight. Ideally, you will have a good sense of humor and won’t take yourself too seriously.
