The position is a part of the Intellectual Property (IP) team within the Office of Technology Development (OTD) which supports the management, development, and maintenance of the University's diverse and expanding patent portfolio. The position's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, monitor and process OTD's central patents email account; enter patent application data and docket patent deadlines and related data in OTD's database; ensure federally funded inventions are reported to the appropriate federal agency and accurate government support clauses are included in new patent applications filed by outside patent counsel; prepare assignment documents, obtain inventor signatures and record documents at USPTO; process patent related portions of grant close out requests for the Office of Sponsored Programs; monitor and confirm payment of patent annuities through CPI; verify and process limited power of attorney documents for foreign patent agents; obtain literature references in support of patenting activities; support the Director of IP in management of new patent application filing and patent prosecution activities of the Cambridge-based life science Directors of Business Development, including communicating instructions to outside patent counsel, as requested; prepare reports as needed. Work with(in) other functional teams in OTD is essential. Occasional travel between OTD's Cambridge and Boston offices is required. Other duties as required by the department and/or IP team.

3+ years of related experience; combination of education and experience will be considered. Must have previous working knowledge and experience using databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and email software packages (Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred).
College degree and/or two or more year's patent-related administrative experience highly preferred. Familiarity with patent rules and patent-related databases is strongly desirable. Demonstrated work experience managing multiple responsibilities, setting priorities, taking initiative and meeting deadlines. Must be detail oriented and have the ability to complete tasks accurately. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and independently in a fast paced environment. Paralegal certificate in Intellectual Property is desirable.
