As a member of the integrated Legal Recruitment and Professional Development Team, the Senior Manager of Talent Development will focus on lawyer training, development and career planning initiatives to ensure the most effective orientation, integration, engagement and retention of lawyers firm-wide. Working with the Chief Legal Talent Officer, Director of Professional Development and firm leaders, the Senior Manager will align firm and practice area training and development initiatives and programs with the strategic goals of the firm and the professional development needs of firm lawyers. The Senior Manager also will play an integral role in the Associate and Counsel performance management and elevation processes. As part of the firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, the Senior Manager will play a vital role collaborating with the Diversity Committee to develop and enhance firm-wide diversity and inclusion initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with the Director of Professional Development and Legal Recruitment Manager to develop and deliver a best-in-class orientation and integration experience for all attorneys, continually evaluating and enhancing program elements based on feedback and industry trends;
Conduct a needs analysis and assess current training programs as part of developing and implementing firm-wide and practice area specific training curricula;
Collaborate with Practice Group Leaders and work allocators to continually assess the legal and professional skills learning needs for Associates across the firm to enhance the training curricula;
Evaluate training program content and delivery and seek ongoing feedback from participants to ensure the greatest return on investment and impact of training programs;
Serve as an active member of the Associate Development Committee participating in the goal setting and implementation of initiatives set forth by the Committee;
Keep current on industry best practices, adult learning theory, curriculum design, and available external resources to enhance content and facilitation of legal and professional skills training programs;
Collaborate with the firm’s Diversity Committee to assess, develop, and implement diversity and inclusion initiatives and programming to ensure that the firm is the most diverse and inclusive workplace possible;
Stay current with the latest diversity and inclusion research and best practices and share learning with the firm to enhance the firm’s initiatives in these areas;
Collaborate with the Director of Professional Development, Associate Development Committee, mentors and Practice Group Leaders on the creation and implementation of Individual Development Plans for Associates;
Assess, enhance and manage the performance management process for Associates, Counsel and Professional Attorneys, including junior Associate practice area reviews, mid-level and senior Associate firm-wide reviews and pre-Partnership reviews for those approaching partnership consideration.
Collaborate with the Legal Recruitment Manager to analyze market data, Associate performance and propose annual salary increases for Associates to the Co-Managing Directors.
Collaborate with the Business Development team and Co-Managing Directors to organize and manage agendas for the Monthly Associate Lunches with the Co-Managing Directors.
Supervise approval of bar license payments as well as firm and individual Associate membership and participation in bar and industry associations and affinity bars.
Oversee the management of mandatory CLE requirements for firm lawyers and the NY Accredited Provider Program administered by the Legal Talent Coordinator.
Manage firm-wide relationships with Practising Law Institute, Practical Law Company and the Deal, including training new lawyers on how to utilize these resources.
Collaborate with Legal Talent Team to continually evaluate and enhance firm processes and systems for greater efficiency and quality.
Work on special department or firm projects, as needed.
Bachelor’s degree required, JD or MBA preferred.
4-6 years working in a professional services firm, law firm preferred.
Understanding of law firm business operations.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent judgment and ability to work independently.
Detail and action-oriented with strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to drive and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across all levels.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Database Management Systems, Software for Evaluations
