The ideal candidate we seek will be focused on negotiating, drafting and reviewing retail leases, amendments and other real-estate related documents and handling legal matters concerning real estate for all Ascena brands. As well as preparing legal documentation for new and existing stores and offices, such as leases, amendments, kickouts, options, estoppels, subordinations, terminations, etc. across all brands, including Ann Taylor, Loft, Lane Bryant, Catherines, Justice, Dress Barn, Maurices and Lou & Grey in a timely manner.

The professional we are looking for will be responsible for the following:
Quality and substance of retail lease documentation.
Render legal advice on real estate related issues, providing guidance, interpretation and direction to various departments throughout Ascena.
Manage landlord-tenant disputes and litigation with a view towards risk mitigation while supporting business goals.
Work in partnership with all functions of real estate, including legal, territory experts, critical dates, real estate support, lease administration, design and construction, and strategy and analytics, actively communicating to support all aspects of a deal.
Collaborate with other in-house paralegals and attorneys to drive efficiency and best practices within the business.
The successful applicant MUST possess the following:
J.D. from an accredited law school; Licensed member in good standing in State Bar Association
Several years of retail real estate leasing experience, focused on representing national tenants located in malls, power centers, strip centers and street locations
Ability to balance legal issues with the goals of the business through demonstration of strong, pragmatic business sense, and the ability to recognize business consequences of legal advice.
Adaptable to changing environments and adept at working with cross-functional teams
In-house experience preferred
Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail
Ability to handle a large volume of matters with minimal direction and supervision. Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines under time pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Track record of initiative, problem solving, ownership of projects, and intellectual curiosity
Strong negotiation, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Excellent judgment and discretion and
Experienced in providing strategic and practical advice to business functions at all levels
Successful completion of a background check required prior to hire
