National 501-(c)-6 not-for-profit real estate trade organization is seeking an experienced Senior level staff attorney to join its government relations department. Salary Scale $150,000 - $200,000
This individual works as an individual contributor or project leader for legislative/lobbying assignments, applies considerable experience and advanced professional legal knowledge to assignments and performs assignments independently.
The ideal candidate will also have the ability to draft and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, documents and legal instruments along with experience with complex corporate governance, including drafting and interpreting bylaws, committee charters, and similar policies. This position is based in Alexandria, VA, with travel as required.
A juris doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and barred within the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
Candidate must have a minimum of 5-10 years of experience with commercial real estate and/or nonprofit law is preferred.
Ability to quickly and effectively analyze complex laws, regulations and the external risk environment and to succinctly and competently provide effective solution-based legal advice taking into consideration legal risk and business objectives.
Outstanding interpersonal skills, independence, creativity, judgment, initiative and work ethic.
Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and professional staff as well as internal and member groups in providing legal services.
Familiarity with analyzing state and federal laws, regulations, court rules, policies and policy proposals.
Support member sub-groups or advisory committees and coordinate with external constituencies.
Provides legal assistance on legislative policy matters; providing advice and counsel on legal matters.
Draft, review and negotiate strategic partner agreements such as MOU’s, NDA’s and trial agreements that support Product Development and go-to-market efforts.
Works on special projects and other duties as required helping to promote groups success.
Litigation skills, a plus.
Able to meet critical deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook and Word
