This individual will report to the Chief Talent Officer. The Director of Talent Development leads the firm-wide team responsible for lawyer integration, evaluations, continuing legal education and professional development. The role requires a highly organized, innovative, engaged leader with strong client service orientation, diplomacy, excellent written/verbal communications skills with strong management and employee development experience. This role is an exempt position, based in Chicago serving all offices.
The work schedule for this position is 8:45 am to 5:15 pm, with additional hours as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Talent Development will provide leadership, direction and oversight in the following areas and will be responsible for duties outlined below:
Training and Development
Develop, lead and monitor Talent Development focused firm wide initiatives for lawyers.
Measure and assess programs for relevancy and impact and sustain, modify or replace as appropriate
Enhance and oversee the firm’s formal Mentoring Program and Career Development Plan Program.
Work with Managing Partner, Chief Talent Officer, practice group leaders, department heads and associates to identify program needs and determine the appropriate means to deliver and assess the success of each program
Work with CTO, Talent Development Manager, practice group leaders and others to develop and update associate and special counsel benchmarks
Work with Talent Development Manager to collaborate with program presenters to update existing content and introduce new learning opportunities
Work with Talent Development Manager and CLE Specialist to ensure CLE compliance tracking and reporting is functioning and adding value to our attorney population
Develop and expand programming offered at all levels within the lawyer life cycle (i.e. partner training)
Maintain and nurture existing and potential relationships with external training consultants
On Boarding, Integration and Evaluations:
Work with Manager of Talent Evaluations and On-boarding to ensure the associate, special counsel, staff attorney and stipend partner evaluation process is fully operational and effective and make recommendations designed to enhance the process as applicable
Oversee execution of firm wide Orientation, post-clerk and lateral associate orientation, New Partner Orientation, and other Special Programming
Create and deliver programming in key areas as needed
Lead and engage team in an effective project management approach to implementation and execution of events and initiatives
Manage and develop the professional skills of the Talent Development team
Provide oversight and management of the Talent Development budget process and expenditures
A professional with experience in professional development, with an understanding of a law firm or professional services environment. Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality work while maintaining a customer service focus.
College degree required (graduate degree or JD preferred) or equivalent work experience
8+ plus years’ experience in a law firm or professional services environment
Management experience required
Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop team skills and dynamics
Must have strong written and oral communication skills, proven experience at diplomacy and effective listening skills
Strong project management and organizational skills
Ability to work well both independently and while leading a team
Highly motivated, proactive self-starter
Proven collaboration skills
Ability to multi-task and deal with stringent deadlines
