VUMC is seeking a healthcare attorney experienced in drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements on behalf of VUMC that relate to the hospitals, hospital based clinics, employer based clinics and other operations both on and off-campus. This position will carry the title of Division Counsel and will work directly with VUMC and within the Office of Legal Affairs, reporting to a Managing Counsel and the VUMC General Counsel.
The candidate must possess a minimum of 3-5 yearsâ experience representing health care providers in negotiating with vendors and other healthcare providers for both goods and services. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in negotiating purchase agreements, professional services agreements and other agreements related to healthcare operations. Familiarity with fraud, waste and abuse (including anti-kickback, civil monetary penalty, Stark and similar regulations), HIPAA, and antitrust compliance is a prerequisite. The successful candidate will be a good negotiator with excellent oral and written communication skills and will have the ability to work independently within a dynamic, heavily regulated and fast paced environment. The ability to partner with a client to understand the clientâs needs and priorities and to develop practical solutions that are compliant with applicable legal concepts and regulations will be essential to success in this role. Excellent client management skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands and work within a team-oriented department will be necessary.
Negotiate and advise on legal aspects of contractual arrangements in a healthcare environment, with a focus on professional services, procurement and transaction documentation.
Contract form development, and develop general guidance and education on key contracting issues and alternative terms.
Assist in developing internal policies related to best practices for contract processing and maintenance.
Provide guidance and assistance to other colleagues in the Office of Legal Affairs in a highly collaborative and team oriented fashion.
JD degree from an ABA accredited law school.
Employment contingent upon State of Tennessee licensure or registration and receipt of In-House Counsel Practice Certificate. The successful candidate must also apply for and become licensed in the State of Tennessee within 12 months of employment.
Must have at least 3-5 years of healthcare related experience.
