Harter Secrest & Emery LLP is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as the Manager of Legal Recruiting and Development. The Manager of Legal Recruiting and Development will be responsible for leading attorney recruitment, training and professional development efforts for each of the firm’s offices. The individual will work closely with the firm’s Director of Legal Recruiting and Development, Hiring Partner, Training and Professional Development Partner and Chair of the Associate Evaluation Committee to support the planning and achievement of the firm’s Legal Recruiting and Professional Development strategy and initiatives.
Develop and implement effective and innovative recruitment strategies;
Manage the recruitment of lateral associates to meet the firm’s strategic objectives and practice needs;
Oversee the law school student recruiting process, including developing strategic outreach;
Plan and oversee the summer associate program;
Manage the integration and orientation of new hires;
Oversee the development and implementation of firm-wide and practice group-specific learning and development opportunities for attorneys;
Assist in the design and implementation of the firm’s training curriculum to meet the needs of the firm’s attorneys and the requirements of the New York CLE Board;
Evaluate, hire and contract with outside vendors;
Manage all aspects of the attorney performance review processes in coordination with the Associate Evaluation Committee;
Develop and manage mentoring and coaching programs;
Supervise staff in executing administrative functions associated with recruiting and professional development; and
Prepare annual recruiting and professional development goals and manage monthly expenses to conform with established annual budget.
Experience and Education Requirements:
Juris Doctor preferred;
Experience in a recruiting or professional development position with a sophisticated law firm or professional service organization a plus;
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with candidates and collaborate with all legal and non-legal members of our team;
Familiarity with best practices and industry trends in recruiting and professional development;
Excellent client service skills;
Superior written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail;
Genuine interest in learning and a desire and ability to coach, mentor, and influence others;
Advanced organizational and problem-solving skills;
Ability to respond to multiple priorities and meet varying deadlines;
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
