This position is in the Office of the Vice Chancellor & General Counsel (OGC). The work site will be primarily at the OGC Office on the Medical School Campus, but paralegal support of attorneys on the Danforth Campus is expected as well.
The selected individual’s primary function will be to provide contract support and administration. This individual will also be expected to assist as needed with paralegal aspects of disputes and litigation. From inception through discovery and trial, and to provide general paralegal assistance, such as assistance with transactions, closings, regulatory analysis, and legal research to all OGC attorneys.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and administer a large volume of contracts of different types; maintain a database and spreadsheets to track key contract terms, such as identification of parties, renewal and termination dates and funds flows; review, summarize and evaluate contracts, organize and maintain contract files; perform initial review of contracts and agreements, for subsequent attorney review; draft routine contracts and amendments under attorney supervision.
Corporate filings for newly formed LLC’s within the State of Missouri and Illinois; obtain employer identification numbers from IRS; draft employment, non-competition and operating agreements under attorney supervision; assist with document retention guidelines as outlined by the University.
Assist as needed with the organization and management of litigation files; document production, case summaries and other tasks related to pending litigation and investigative matters.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position requires occasional lifting of heavy files, and frequent travel between Washington University campuses, as well as occasional travel to off-campus locations.
Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor degree in paralegal studies plus a minimum of 5 years of corporate or litigation paralegal experience; prior experience in contract management, as well as working knowledge of corporate law.
Combination of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Strong information technology skills.
Ability to occasionally lift heavy files
Ability to frequently travel between Washington University campuses, as well as occasional travel to off-campus locations.
Working knowledge of federal and Missouri state court litigation.
Strong demonstrated work history, with an emphasis in transactional matters.
Training or education with an emphasis in legal or paralegal studies.
Credentialed as a Certified Legal Assistant or equivalent.
Ability to work independently, assume responsibility for completing tasks and exhibit strong time management skills.
Ability to work in a team environment and take instructions from managing attorneys.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with a variety of University constituents and ability to handle sensitive University matters in a confidential manner.

The hiring range for this position is $50,895 - $66,144 annually.
