The successful candidate will provide legal guidance and advice that shapes strategic decision-making in the ever-changing electric industry. The candidate’s knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations will be key in shaping the company’s policies in light of evolving business needs and industry trends.
Seeking an individual with a demonstrated interest and experience in environmental law, with additional experience in drafting and negotiating commercial/contracts a plus. Ability to prioritize and efficiently handle multiple matters and issues simultaneously while keeping management informed is required. Excellent research and verbal and written communication skills also are required. The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of increasing responsibility in environmental compliance and permitting across all areas of environmental practice. Experience in negotiating and drafting agreements and in the energy industry a plus.
Provide legal advice to internal clients and executive management on environmental compliance, permitting and enforcement under federal, state and local environmental laws relating to air, waste, water quality, and natural resources.
Proactively identify regulations and other legal developments affecting SRP operations, identify risks to the company, and advise management on an appropriate response.
Review proposed rules and, with internal technical team, draft comments for submittal to regulatory agencies on behalf of SRP.
Interact professionally with and effectively represent SRP before regulatory agencies, administrative bodies, internal and external customers, legal counsel, and other stakeholders.
Working with internal clients and outside counsel as appropriate, manage environmental litigation and enforcement proceedings.
Draft, review and negotiate consent decrees or other agreements with regulatory agencies.
