This position will interface with business and legal department leaders; accordingly, the Trademark Paralegal must conduct him or herself with confidence, act as an expert in their field, and be skilled at drafting and providing clear and well-reasoned business advice to complex legal problems. The Trademark Paralegal will provide Intellectual Property (IP) support for a wide range of businesses with varying needs and requirements, the Trademark Paralegal must be a self-starter, efficiently manage their time and work proactively to meet the demands of the businesses. The Trademark Paralegal will also assist the IP legal team with management of the company's domain name portfolio, copyright portfolio, and provide assistance with other intellectual property matters.Primary Responsibilities: Work with a wide-range of internal clients and internal / external attorneys to address inquiries and obtain documentation and specimens as required to prosecute and maintain trademarksManage a growing docket of trademark maintenance deadlines with minimal oversightConduct research and initial investigations of possible infringementsAssist IP Counsel in preparation of responses to inquiries from internal clientsPrepare correspondence and materials for use with Chief Marketing Officers across the enterprise as well as leaders within LegalManage the company's process to evaluate and pursue new generic top-level domain (gTLD) registrationsDevelop and maintain IP Legal educational content and assist with employee trainingIdentify and assess areas of legal risk and escalate appropriatelyPerform internet research projects and other special projects on an as needed basisReview marketing and advertising materials for compliance with company branding and trademark / copyright standardsMaintain internal files for company's intellectual property portfolio for trademarks and registered copyrights Manage legal invoices
Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or high school diploma / GED 4 or more years of trademark paralegal experienceIntermediate or better proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Excel and Power PointMust live within a commutable distance to our Minnetonka office location (9900 Bren Road)Preferred Qualifications:Paralegal CertificateProject Management - some experience managing projects with multiple key owners, several components, and changing time frames Six Sigma experience or interest in lean legal processing and innovative management of portfoliosExperience with managing data and metrics reportingCareers at UnitedHealth Group.
