Legal Resource Group is assisting a large Midwest firm seeking an experienced Director of Legal Recruiting for the firm. This position may be located in either Chicago or Milwaukee.
About the Position The Director will lead and oversee the firm's legal recruiting department, determining the strategic direction and objectives of the department, and supporting the firm's growth while maintaining and improving its cultural, diversity, and quality standards. The Director leads the development and implementation of talent acquisition strategies and evaluation of the entire recruiting function, strategies, and procedures.
This position reports to the CHRO, and has supervisory responsibility over the Senior Manager of Attorney Recruitment, Manager of Recruitment & Employee Relations and a Recruiting & Diversity Specialist.
In conjunction with senior leadership, research and plan recruiting efforts for lateral partners in accordance with the firm's strategic plan.
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive recruiting strategies that will guarantee the firm attracts and hires top legal talent.
Create and maintain an environment of equal employment opportunity, diversity, and competitive advantage in support of the firm's diversity and inclusion strategic plan.
Participate in organizational strategic planning and provide leadership with regard to recruiting policy development in alignment with the firm's strategic plan.
Develop, initiate, and maintain effective programs for workforce retention, promotion, and succession planning.
Research and develop onboarding and training programs that focus on enabling new employees to integrate into the firm successfully and meet firm goals.
Keep up to date on trends in practice area growth and decline. Educate the firm and drive change in these areas.
Lead, develop, and manage an ambitious, high performing team that drives the full-cycle recruiting process for all legal positions in the firm. Provide leadership in the establishment of the employment brand and recruitment strategies that ensure the delivery of the firm's operational standards in recruitment activities.
Drive a culture of mentoring, coaching, and constant improvement, identifying and implementing projects in order to increase firm-wide recruiting effectiveness and efficiency.
Oversee compliance of all regulations and objectives concerning the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention process. Provide training on regulations and objectives, as appropriate.
Supervise daily operation of legal recruiting staff. Oversee legal recruiting activities in all offices.
Develop effective relationships within the firm and the legal recruitment community to have positive influence and impact on the firm's recruiting program.
Collaborate with firm management and internal stakeholders to assist them in understanding the current and future workforce planning requirements.
Work with department and practice group leaders within the firm to determine current and future talent requirements.
Follow up with department and practice group leaders to ensure proper matching has occurred throughout and after the onboarding process.
Work with internal stakeholders such as the CHRO and Director of Compensation & Benefits when preparing new position announcements and recruiting materials.
Screen all lateral candidates for appropriate fit.
Create a template for compensation for lateral partner hires, draft compensation terms and term letters.
Leverage key tracking analytics and impact metrics in order to grow data driven and technically skilled recruiting team.
Research internal and external legal recruiting trends, making strategic recommendations given findings and experience.
Create and maintain standardized reporting system that evaluates the success of current recruitment strategies and leads to identification for solutions in the interest of constant improvement for the department and the quality of talent brought into the firm.
Provide CHRO and stakeholders with insights for further decision making and strategy formulation.
Examine hiring trends to anticipate the firm's response to law school admission and labor market changes.
Introduce appropriate technology to create and maintain an efficient legal recruiting process.
About the Person
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required. JD preferred.
Minimum of 5-7 yrs of experience in a management recruiting position; preferably in a law firm.
Thorough knowledge of NALP's principles and standards.
Strong interpersonal skills with exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Proficient with a variety of Windows based software packages.
Detail oriented and highly organized.
Team player with proven leadership capabilities.
