The Empirical Research Fellow will assist a team of Harvard Law School professors and attorneys in the preparation of a report on racial disparities in the Massachusetts criminal justice system. This will include:
Collecting, managing, and structuring quantitative datasets
Designing templates for data distribution in close collaboration with the providers of the original data
Statistical analyses of complex datasets and interpretation of results
Communication of results in graphics and reports
It is expected that the Empirical Research Fellow will become an integral member of the research team with substantial responsibility for data collection, management, and analysis. The research fellow will work closely with data professionals in the Massachusetts judiciary and elsewhere, and with Ph.D.-trained faculty at Harvard Law School. The position should therefore serve as an excellent platform for those considering graduate school, law school, or business school in the future.

Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field required. Must have demonstrated programming skills in (1) Python, Ruby, or other languages suitable for scraping and other data assembly tasks, and (2) data analysis packages such as R or Stata.
A strong interest in social science research. The fellowship requires intellectual creativity, eagerness to take initiative and solve intricate problems, the ability to work independently, with strong research and analytical writing skills.
