Summary of Position: Assist with overseeing all Student Account functions. Supervise front end staff and maintain relationships with internal and external customers. Insure compliance with all relevant federal, state, college and industry laws, rules, policies and procedures while insuring customer satisfaction.
Major Responsibilities: Essential Functions are to maintain relationships with internal and external customers through student and parent interaction in the office. Maintain a sense of cooperative interaction with Registrar, Financial Aid, Computer Center, Admissions, Residential Services, Auxiliary Services, and the Attorney General's Office as a representative of the Business Office. Supervise customer service functions within the office to ensure efficient, accurate customer service while adhering to all required policies for privacy, confidentiality and internal control. Develop analytical and reporting tools to support the Student Accounts function. Suggest improvements and perform assessment tasks. Provide ongoing backup and/or retraining to staff on Office Policy and Procedures, Banner, Nelnet, HESC inquiry and Cashnet. Train staff members on new Banner, Nelnet, Cashnet or Parking system features as upgrades occur. Assist with the development of documentation of evolving policies and procedures. Maintain and update procedure manual in and ongoing basis. Ensure proper practices for remote cash collection sites. Establish effective controls. Ensure off-site cash is audited periodically, including an unannounced periodic cash count. Continue to develop and maintain understanding of Cortland, SUNY and Federal Financial Aid policies as they pertain to Student Account functions. Maintain familiarity with Banner Financial Aid module and Financial Aid Policies and Procedures. Evaluate strengths and weaknesses against required policies and revise procedures to ensure compliance and effective internal control. Remit positive pay and ACH files daily. Coordinate, update and distribute tuition and fee charts for posting on website and distribution to various offices. Participate actively in groups such as SICAS meetings. Assist with upgrades to online systems. Assist with email developing making communication process and billing come together. Assist with shopping cart concept of student registration, billing and payment. Assist with E-commerce best practices of PCI compliance issues.
Required Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree-Experience in accounting -Prior supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications: Previous student accounting experience and federal financial aid training; Novice Level training at Federal Title IV sessions; Banner knowledge and training in the following modules: Student G/L, A/P, A/R, Finance and Financial Aid; formal supervision/management training;accounting training and/or accounting coursework;customer service and continuous improvement training;strong supervisory skills; excellent verbal and written; communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; able to support the mission of the department through collaboration and planning with the director and to implement goals in support of the same; demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills to address complex situations; skill managing multiple tasks and priorities under pressure and with frequent interruptions during peak periods; demonstrate accuracy to the highest ethical stands and professionalism; knowledge of computer software including word processing and spreadsheet applications; ability to operate calculator, telephone, printers, and various office equipment; conflict management skills to handle difficult people and situation in a positive manner
