DUTIES: Report to the Supervisor of the Correspondence area. Responsible for the release of information to all requesters, including patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. Release medical information to insurance companies and lawyers. Process all Subpoenas from the Courts and Social Security department in a timely a fashion. Verify authorization in accordance with hospital policy and procedures and state and federal laws. Schedule appointments for review of records by attorneys, auditors, patients, etc. Respond to all Telephone, Fax inquiries, Walk- In and Department of Health, other hospitals request for medical information. Ensure strict adherence to security and confidentiality guideline of HIPAA . Cross trained in all HIM functions. The following systems are utilized with the Alpha scanning system; Healthbridge, Electronic Medical Record, 3M Chart Tracking System, OmniMD and Verisma. Will be on rotation for coverage at the SUNY Bayridge site Duties and responsibilities are not limited to the described task above. (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION) QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: A minimum of one (1) year experience in Health Information Management and comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology; familiarity with HIPAA, Federal and State Laws; Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. PREFERRED: Associate's degree with two years related work experience in a health care environment, preferably in Health Information Management.
