The Contracts and Compliance Attorney (“Attorney”) will report to the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, and assist with carrying out the legal operations of the Association. The Attorney will be responsible for drafting, monitoring, reviewing and managing the Association’s contracts with outside legal, communications, government affairs and scientific consultants, handling matters involving regulatory compliance, including principally responding to internal campaign and political law compliance questions, and overseeing the Association’s outside political law compliance firms; legal and regulatory research and analysis; and corporate governance for the Association and its charitable foundation. The Attorney will work regularly with in-house counsel at the Association’s member companies, and outside counsel retained by the Association.
Possess a J.D. degree, be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of any State or the District of Columbia, and be an active member of the bar in good standing.
2-3 years post J.D. legal experience.
Excellent legal research and writing ability.
Demonstrated ability to function effectively and independently in a fast-paced legal environment.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to travel occasionally.
Preferred additional qualifications:
Political law and campaign finance counseling.
Experience communicating complex legal matters to non-lawyers both orally and in writing.
Experience with matters involving federal regulatory process and counseling, preferably involving the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Food and Drug Administration) and/or the U.S. Department of Agriculture would also be a plus.
