The Senior Attorney is responsible for assisting the Assistant General Counsel in overseeing and managing legal affairs for the assigned SSM Health Care region and its operating entities under the direction of the Assistant General Counsel. The scope of this role includes, but is not limited to: providing legal advice to all regional entities on regulatory, compliance, and other legal matters; managing due diligence efforts related to mergers and acquisitions for the region; interpreting legislation and legal documents; advising management of legal matters and providing education on changes in the law.
The completion of a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school (health law focus preferred) and a member in good standing of a state Bar.
At least 5 years' experience in the area of health care regulation and/or law.
In-depth knowledge of health care and provider operations, exempt organization requirements, health care regulation and compliance, Fraud and Abuse, False Claims Act, and the accreditation standards.
Utmost discretion in maintaining appropriate confidentiality, as well as knowledge of attorney-client privilege.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to manage and motivate professionals for excellence in performance through, among other ways, integrating CQI principles and tools into work processes.
Ability to manage a significant work load, prioritize projects appropriately, and work independently.
