The Practice Innovations Manager will oversee and support the firm’s practice- and client-facing KM initiatives using machine learning and other advanced legal technologies. This position will identify opportunities and partner with firm attorneys to further knowledge management initiatives, particularly those involving artificial intelligence (“AI”) and other advanced technologies, such as document assembly, logic systems and workflow tools, contract extraction and analysis and machine learning. The Practice Innovations Manager will become the subject matter expert on relevant technologies, manage vendor relationships, research industry trends, and keep abreast of innovations in the marketplace and available technologies. As a member of the KM team, the Practice Innovations Manager may be called upon to contribute to other KM and Technology department efforts. This may include working alongside attorneys to develop content, processes and configurations that further KM initiatives.
In addition, the following are some of the essential responsibilities:
Working with practice groups, client teams and other relevant departments to identify business problems and opportunities, define scope and set expectations; and
Working directly with attorneys to build and refine apps or models and coding templates.
Provide expertise to the firm’s attorneys and staff on core practice innovation and AI technologies.
Provide consultation to match client, attorney and staff needs with appropriate AI technologies and support.
Develop standard processes, procedures and reports for projects under the practice innovation program.
Develop training, templates, self-help resources and other best practices for support team and end users.
Design and deliver marketing and communications campaigns, as needed, to promote and grow the firm’s KM program and use of advanced technologies.
Track metrics on usage of practice innovation program tools and make recommendations.
Periodically assess client satisfaction and the success of the practice innovation program.
Assist the Director of KM Services in vendor management issues, evaluation of new technologies and selection of vendors and tools.
Advise Library on AI and advanced technology tools for legal research.
This position requires: strong leadership skills, excellent project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to translate information between technical personnel and end users. The ability to analyze a problem/project quickly and accurately, and develop creative solutions. The ability to identify and evaluate risk issues related to client-facing platforms.
Solid logical and technological aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Fluent in standard MS Office applications and ability to quickly master new AI, collaboration and similar software and tools. In addition, the ability to exercise independent judgment, self-direct and allocate resources to meet competing demands. The ideal candidate has familiarity with AI and process improvement technologies, such as document assembly and expert systems, data extraction and analysis, and legal research and outcome prediction.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience in legal support management or equivalent is required. Successful track record in client service and supporting practice teams.
Experience as a practicing lawyer, paralegal or other direct legal support strongly preferred. Experience with AI and other advanced technologies for the legal industry strongly preferred.
