Description: The position is part of the Office of the General Counsel, which represents The University of Tennessee System, a statewide system of public higher education. Primary duties include defending The University of Tennessee and its employees in all phases of employment and other civil litigation (including discovery, motions, trial, and appeal), representing the University in administrative proceedings, and proactively advising administration with respect to employment, student conduct, and other matters. The position is located in Knoxville, Tennessee, but responsibilities involve service to all campuses and institutes in the University system. Some travel is required.
Qualifications: J.D. from an accredited law school; Tennessee license or eligibility for Tennessee license; minimum of five (5) years of civil litigation experience; strong academic record; and strong legal writing and oral communications skills. One or more of the following types of experience is preferred: 10 or more years of relevant litigation experience; public higher education experience; or employment law experience.
