Practice Group Leader and Chief Legal Counsel: Claims & Litigation
The prestigious & world renowned Johns Hopkins Health System is searching for a Practice Group Leader and Chief Legal Counsel: Claims & Litigation. Working as a senior member of the JHHS legal team and reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role requires legal expertise and in-depth knowledge of insurance management, claims, litigation and medical malpractice. This leader will be able to evaluate and counsel on terms, limits and coverage provided by Professional & General Liability, Directors and Officers, Cyber Liability and other policies issued either through captive or commercial insurance carriers.
Adept at navigating complex organizations, this individual will be a client-centered attorney with a broad understanding of insurance operations in addition to specific expertise in claims management and litigation matters. From advising on professional and general liability clams and negotiating settlement agreements to monitoring and managing litigation through outside counsel, this in-house expert provides a critical legal role for the enterprise. In addition to serving in an advisory capacity to management regarding patient care and risk management, s/he will be directly involved with operations of the JHHS captive insurance company, “MCMI: Medical Center Insurance Company”.
Ten (10) year minimum , 15+ years preferred of legal practice in Healthcare Law
Understanding of the insurance industry and insurance company operations; in addition to being well versed in coverage and policy language • Claims settlement and litigation experience
Develops positive and collegial relationships with outside counsel
In depth knowledge of medical malpractice
Highly developed analytical legal skills
Experience in risk management
Experience drafting and reviewing complex legal memoranda
Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of Health system personnel
Track record in maintaining positive, collaborative and effective relationships with physicians, peers, subordinates and superiors
Able to effectively manage a professional staff
