The Technology Licensing Office at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a leading technology transfer organization, commercializing world class research at MIT. The TLO invites applications for a Technology Licensing Officer who will focus on software, information, and communication technologies developed at MIT including aspects of AI and machine learning algorithms, digital data, e-health, robotics and more. This technology transfer position embodies a unique overlap of technology, business, and law within the Boston/Cambridge entrepreneurial ecosystem in the heart of Kendall Square. Working with MIT’s brightest scientists and engineers, you will help translate their ingenuity and ideas to advance the development of new technologies entering the market through technology licensing. You will also facilitate the formation of startup companies to license MIT IP by fostering strategic relationships with MIT innovation programs, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and industry partners. Key responsibilities include: managing a vast intellectual property portfolio, assessing/evaluating new technologies, developing and implementing strategies for the marketing and licensing of these technologies to commercialization partners, negotiating and authoring license, amendments and other relevant agreements and supporting post-license activity.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer sciences, physics or equivalent. An advanced degree with research experience is preferred but not required. A minimum of seven years’ relevant experience in a commercial role involving software product development and commercialization or business development in an applied field such as enterprise software, e-health, robotics, telecom, or equivalent technical area is an absolute requirement. Strong knowledge of the software business development life cycle for either the robotics, data tech, cyber, AI, digital health, mobile, or networking communications industries is desirable. Must be able to interact and effectively communicate with a wide range of people including faculty, students, industry executives, entrepreneurs, attorneys, and venture capitalists. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English, are essential, as is a talent for and track record of negotiation. The ability to grasp and diagnose complex business, technical, interpersonal, and inter-organizational issues and work concurrent issues through completion is required. A highly motivated self-starter who can juggle many assignments at once while working within a tight-knit team is sought.
