Deliver immigration services including immigration advising for F-1 and J-1 students at the NYU Office of Global Services primarily in our Brooklyn, NY office: counsel international students on immigration matters related to their stay; assist as appropriate in issuing required US government documents for international students in F-1 or J-1 status; advise students on opportunities, rights and responsibilities under the law and refer to University departments, attorneys, or governmental agencies as appropriate. Advise students on legal, personal, financial, and cultural matters. Conduct education programs for university staff.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Preferred Education: Master's in cross-cultural communication, counseling, area or cultural studies, foreign language, TESOL.
Required Experience: Minimum 2 years relevant immigration regulations advisement and compliance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience teaching/training/presenting.
Preferred Experience: 3 years' administering immigration and exchange visitor benefits (DSO/ARO) in a higher education setting.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of immigration, SEVIS, and exchange visitor requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds; excellent organizational, interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Fluency in or familiarity with at least one foreign language; experience living abroad. Familiarity with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Web-based applications. Completion of NAFSA F-1 and J-1 Professional Development Programs.
