As a Senior Attorney for John Deere in Moline, IL, you will provide research and legal counsel, recommendations, and alternatives for legal questions and issues related to the field of product-related environmental law. In addition, you will:
Be required to have specific knowledge of relevant environmental laws and regulations, including EPA regulations. One of the primary areas of focus is off-road engine emissions regulations.
Monitor and be knowledgeable about international developments regarding product-related environmental laws, including the European Union REACH, ROHS, and WEEE. Also, able to advise clients regarding same.
Monitor and be knowledgeable about developments regarding product-related environmental laws in the U.S., including California Proposition 65, product take-back laws, U.S. implications regarding the European product-related laws cited above, conflict minerals, etc.
Represent the company in product-related environmental matters pending before governmental agencies.
Manage environmental product-related litigation matters to ensure the Company's legal rights are pursued and achieved.
Draft, negotiate and/or file contracts, agreements, or other documents.
Work closely with senior management to evaluate the impact of significant changes in the law.
Stay current on emerging trends in the law through continuing legal education, reading, professional conferences, and participating in professional associations.
Work closely with corporate as well as specific business units on all legal issues relating to environmental products issues.
Participate on corporate teams relating to area of responsibility.
Coordinate delivery of legal services with in-house global regional attorneys and outside counsel.
Provide training/education to business personnel regarding environmental issues.
Provide a coordinating function for the delivery of legal services related to product-related environment legal issues, including engine emissions issues.
Participate with peers in the client organization to set company policy.
Anticipates potential issues by watching trends in general areas of the law and understands possible implications to the business.
Play a lead role in developing strategy.

What Skills You Need
8 or more years of environmental law experience in the overall corporate legal environment, private practice, government sector, or corporate law firm
Experience with legal issues affecting area of responsibility, able to identify issues associated with assigned tasks, and able to spot ethical issues in practice
Experience performing legal research using the internet plus various online tools
Skills and experience with interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution
Effective writing skills, including grammatical usage, persuasive copy, and style
Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 25%
