The City Commission consists of the Mayor and four Commissioners, all of whom are elected at-large and serve staggered four-year terms. The City has 2,851 full-time staff and a FY2019 proposed annual operating and capital budget of approximately $900 million. The City Commission appoints the City Manager, City Auditor, City Attorney, and City Treasurer-Clerk. The City Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer responsible for implementing policies adopted by the Commission and for the general administration of the City, with support from the Deputy City Manager and three (3) Assistant City Managers. The City is a full-service city with 28 departments, including Aviation, Electric Utilities, and Transit. The City has a collaborative, solutions-oriented culture with a strong emphasis on customer service.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Public or Business Administration and at least ten (10) years of senior management experience in public administration, preferably with a municipality of similar size and complexity; a Master’s degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience which incorporates the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
