As an Attorney for John Deere in Moline, IL, you will provide research and legal counsel, recommendations, and alternatives for the legal questions and issues in the areas of transportation, logistics, and related topics. In addition, you will:
Draft, negotiate, and/or file legal briefs and documents including opinions, contracts, notices, agreements, registrations, and licenses.
Develop and execute training on legal matters to groups of various sizes to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with various legal requirements.
Stay current on emerging trends in the law through continuing legal education, reading, professional conferences, and participating in professional associations.
Incorporate a basic understanding of the practical applications of the law in counseling clients and taking action and be primarily responsible for advising the transportation and logistics function.
Provide recommended actions and alternatives to achieve business goals/objectives, and effectively evaluate and communicate levels of risk for alternative actions.

What Skills You Need
4 or more years of experience in a private law firm or corporate law department advising on complex transportation and logistics matters (including structuring, negotiating and drafting related contracts)
Specific experience could include, for example, 3PL agreements, bailments, carrier freight agreements, drayage contracts, hazardous materials transportation under 49 CFR; Incoterms; ocean carriage agreements; and warehouse agreements
Experience with risk management and insurance, within areas of specialization and responsibility
Effective writing skills, including grammatical usage, persuasive copy, and style
Experience with legal issues affecting area of responsibility, able to identify issues associated with assigned tasks, and able to spot ethical issues in practice
What Makes You Stand Out
Skill and experience in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution
Experience in laws and regulations and commercial considerations relating to transportation and logistics, e.g., carrier agreements, Incoterms, warehousing and insurance
Education (or equivalent work experience)
Juris Doctor (JD) degree
Appropriate/necessary license to practice law in the field where working
