Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Iowa State University invites applications for an Extension Equal Opportunity (EO) Specialist in the Office of Equal Opportunity on behalf of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to assist in the administration of the comprehensive equal opportunity, Affirmative Action, and diversity programs to ensure institutional compliance with federal and state laws and Board of Regents mandates to ensure non-discrimination in the workplace and education and to enhance the employment opportunities of qualified members of certain protected groups.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Inclusion and Equal Opportunity, this position will be responsible for assisting with the university's affirmative action program; Equal Opportunity; Title IX compliance; compliance with non-discrimination laws and executive orders; and resolution of complaints of discrimination and harassment. Other responsibilities include drafting reports on equal opportunity, affirmative action, human rights, and anti-harassment. The incumbent is required to work collaboratively with University administrators, committees, faculty, staff, students, and external constituents in advancing equal opportunity, affirmative action, diversity and inclusion. Responsibilities include communicating ISU Extension and Outreach goals of equity and civil engagement. Promotion of Office of Equal Opportunity goals and mission in order to create awareness among the University community including Extension and Outreach, and their external partners of compliance with state and federal laws and regulations in all areas of the University.
The successful candidate will possess excellent listening, written and oral communication skills to work with faculty, staff, students, attorneys, community leaders, vendors and outside auditors. The candidate must also have the ability to work well under pressure and meet critical deadlines; resolve conflict; and have a record of integrity and good judgment.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 9 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience in a higher education environment.
Experience that demonstrates knowledge of contemporary diversity issues and trends.
Experience with complaint resolution strategies and techniques.
Experience with complaint investigation processes and/or Federal reporting requirements.
Experience designing/conducting informational and motivational training programs.
Experience working with rural populations and county offices.
Extension and Outreach is an essential part of Iowa State University and provides education and information to all Iowans in four Signature Issues (Food and the Environment, Health and Well-being, Community Development and 4-H Youth Development). It is delivered through face-to-face and online engagement and partnerships with Iowa's 99 counties.
This position is located on campus in Ames and requires statewide travel to carry out Extension and Outreach responsibilities. Candidates must have access to their own transportation. The duties of this position require willingness to work evenings and weekends.
