The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applicants for a full-time, academic year, tenure track assistant or associate professor position in Elementary Science Education, beginning September 12, 2019. Cal Poly embraces the Teacher/Scholar model with responsibilities in teaching, scholarly activities, and service to the university and profession.
Cal Poly strongly values diversity and inclusion, especially in the classroom and among its areas of study. This position is part of a university-wide cluster of searches designed to increase curricular coverage of areas related to diversity and inclusion, as well as to promote inclusive teaching strategies across the university. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the university's goals in these areas.

Candidates selected through this diversity cluster hire will be given $10,000 in start-up funds to support their work in diversity and inclusion. Once hired, candidates will collaborate with their dean and others to develop a plan for utilizing these funds for supplemental compensation, assigned time, or professional development activities.
1. Earned doctorate in Science Education, or related field 2. Evidence of or potential for an active research agenda 3. Evidence of excellence in teaching or potential excellence in teaching: - beginning and advanced science methods courses to pre-service and in-service teachers working in grades K-8 - general education courses in a pre-service elementary teacher education program 4. Teaching experience at the K-8 level with diverse populations of students
1. Hold a pertinent teaching credential 2. Experience supervising teacher candidates 3. Experience working with emergent bilingual students in elementary schools 4. Ability to integrate technology into instruction 5. Experience developing and participating in collaborative endeavors with local K-12 schools 6. Bilingual proficiency
Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
