The nationally recognized and accredited City of Lakewood Police Department is now accepting applications for the expected July 2019 Academy.
Please Note: This position is for New Recruits and Lateral Police Agents.

To qualify as a Police Agent Recruit you must meet the following requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age, and
Have obtained a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a nationally accredited university by July 1, 2019.
Other State requirements for Police Officers in Colorado, including Lakewood Police Lateral Agents include:
No felony convictions.
No convictions of misdemeanor crimes that would affect your ability to certify with the Colorado Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board. Visit the POST website at https://coloradopost.gov/node/556 for a list of misdemeanors that will preclude police officer certification. Generally, traffic violations do not fall under these restrictions; however, you must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license by the date of hire.
To apply as a Lateral Police Officer, you must meet the above listed criteria and the following:
Possess an active Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification or an active state equivalent,
not currently under Internal Affairs investigation for any reason,
a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a POST certified full-time law enforcement officer in a policing environment similar to that found in most urban and suburban setting.
The following types of experience are NOT regarded as "law enforcement" experience for the purpose of Lateral to the Lakewood Police Department:
Deputy/Officer employed in a jail/prison setting
"Full Service" employment in a university setting
A volunteer reserve police officer
A military police officer
A District Attorney investigator
Employment on a part-time basis; or
Time spent in a training academy.
$59,571.20 annually - Starting Pay when hired into Academy $63,585.60 annually - Increase effective upon successful completion of Police Academy and entry in to Field Training $67,849.60 annually - Increase effective upon successful completion of Field Training $72,404.80 annually - Increase after 2 years of hire and upon successful completion of Probationary Period $77,334.40 annually - Increase after 3 years from date of hire as Police Recruit. Lateral hire starting pay. $82,492.80 annually - Increase after 4 years from date of hire as Police Recruit. $88,774.40 annually - Increase after 5 years from date of hire as Police Recruit. (This is our top step for Police Agents, salary is studied annually and adjusted accordingly.)
Medical Insurance – Options include a Cigna or Kaiser High-Deductible Health Plan with a city-funded Health Reimbursement Account. Enrollment is the first of the month following the date of hire.
Dental & Vision Insurance – Delta Dental plan and VSP plan. Enrollment is the first of the month following the hire date.
Life Insurance – Full-time employees are covered for 1.5 times their annual salary in life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment, up to a maximum of $400,000 (the minimum benefit is $50,000). The City pays the cost of the coverage. Additional voluntary insurance for employee, spouse, or dependents available.
Long-Term Disability Insurance – 60% of pay. Plan is paid for by the City.
Retirement – The City's pension fund is a social security replacement, money purchase plan 401(a). Mandatory employee contribution is 8 percent of gross base salary; City contribution is 10 percent of gross base salary. Enrollment is immediate and vesting begins after 1 year with full vesting after 5 years.
Leaves – 11 holidays + 2 floating days per year; 8 hours sick leave accrual per month; 8 hours vacation leave accrual per month.
Other - Use of city recreation facilities, provided cell phone for business use, uniform dry cleaning, and more.
