Americans for Immigrant Justice (AI Justice) seeks a Litigation Fellow to litigate individual and class action lawsuits in federal court. AI Justice’s Litigation Program staff work on a wide range of civil rights and civil liberties cases in federal court in Florida and around the U.S. For this position, AI Justice is particularly interested in candidates with immigration experience and/or federal court expertise, though that is not required. The fellow will also provide legal services to detained unaccompanied minors in Immigration Court.
The fellow is responsible for assisting with federal litigation preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs; conducting discovery; presenting oral arguments.
Engage in pre-litigation analysis, including evaluating and following up on intakes; conducting factual investigations and legal analyses; utilizing the Freedom of Information Act; and drafting demand letters.
Analyze legal and policy developments related to immigrant justice.
Prepare detained unaccompanied minors for immigration court hearings and appear as "Friend of Court." The attorney will help unrepresented children navigate courtroom procedures; convey basic information to the court; otherwise assist the child before the immigration court; review legal screenings to determine eligibility for legal relief; and provide counsel and advice to detained unaccompanied minors.
Communicate regularly with clients, co-counsel, and partner organizations;
Regularly meet with and be contact person for other immigrants’ rights and civil rights groups.
Work closely and maintain strong relationships with various government agencies and social service providers.
Keep up-to-date with changes in immigration law and policy.
Comply with other data and program reporting requirements.
The ideal candidate for this position will have superlative writing and analytical skills; will have experience with federal, civil-rights litigation, including developing cases, conducting discovery, and participating in evidentiary proceedings; will have substantive experience in immigration law or federal court experience; will bring a diversity of experience and perspective to the position; will have a demonstrated ability to work well with a team; and will be fluent in Spanish

Excellent writing, research, analytical, and communication skills;
JD from accredited law school;
Membership in good standing with the FL Bar;
Fluency in written and oral Spanish;
