Job Description: The Associate General Counsel will have a challenging, wide-ranging practice, and must be able to handle multiple, unrelated matters concurrently. The Associate General Counsel must be able to complete complex projects both independently and with direction from the General Counsel.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts.
Develop, review, and revise University policies.
Perform legal research.
Assist the General Counsel in administering and coordinating the delivery of legal services for the University by providing advice and representation on a wide variety of higher education matters, including employment, tax, discrimination, tort liability, intellectual property, and immigration.
Assist the General Counsel in coordinating the delivery of legal services to the University by outside legal counsel.
Perform related duties as required and/or assigned by the General Counsel.
Applicants must have a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school, must be a current member in good standing with the South Carolina Bar Association or be able to acquire membership within a reasonable time upon hire, and must have a minimum of two years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or working for an institution of comparable complexity to Furman.
Experience in labor and employment law, contract negotiation, and/or business-related matters, as well as previous higher education experience, is desirable.
