Our Washington office recruiting manager takes initiative for all aspects of lawyer and law student recruiting including summer associates, judicial clerks, new lawyers, and lateral hires. You would act in coordination with the Office Hiring Partner, Office Administrator, and the Firmwide Director of Recruiting. You would receive support from office recruiting staff and a firm-wide recruiting team. We have developed a national network of expert recruiting managers who collaborate regularly and meet in person once each year to formulate plans and exchange ideas. Jones Day also offers professional development programs for staff and administrative personnel. We pay for membership in the local city group (WALRAA), and in the National Association for Law Placement (NALP).
You would be involved in meaningful aspects of legal recruiting for the office which include crafting efficient processes, building collaborative teams, and creating pathways to connect people.
Law School and Summer Associate Program Responsibilities include:
Opportunity for creating team processes for improving law school recruiting;
Coordinating on-campus interview arrangements and events at law schools;
Forming relationships with Career Services;
Interacting with law students and scheduling student call-back interviews;
Leading all functions of the summer program, including substantial participation on the team that organizes social, educational and business events;
Attending summer associate orientation and summer program events;
Supervising the collection of work evaluations and preparing for and attending recruiting committee meetings; and
Responding to day-to-day questions of summer associates.
Lateral Recruiting Responsibilities:
Lateral Recruiting is a significant part of this job and Jones Day's centralized lateral recruiting process could be a game-changer for you. You would combine ideas with the firm-wide lateral recruiting manager and the office practice leaders to craft plans for sourcing suitable applicants.
You would also supervise maintenance of data in the viRecruit applicant tracking system, as well as other data systems used for recruiting and the summer program (examples include viWorkAllocation and SharePoint). Responsibilities also extend to handling the generation of reports and analyzing statistics for the production of charts. The Recruiting Manager is responsible for approving and monitoring expenses related to recruiting and prepares annual office recruiting budgets.
Four-year college degree.
Minimum of 5 years experience in a law firm.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion.
Ability to work and communicate with a wide range of people, including in a team setting.
Ability to establish effective working relationships within the department, Office and Firm, as well as with vendors and others outside the Firm.
Knowledge of viRecruit applicant tracking, work allocation, and reporting systems preferred.
MS Word and Excel.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
