Position Description:
The Materials Engineering (MATE) Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking a faculty colleague for a joint tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level depending on prior work experience. The faculty position is focused on computational modeling and simulation applied to Materials Science and Engineering. Highly desired expertise areas include: multiscale modelling for Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME), continuum level modeling including FEA and CALPHAD methods, and/or atomistic modeling such as DFT. Other desirable skills include phase-field modeling, mesoscale integration, and molecular dynamics applied to materials in department focal areas.
This tenure-track appointment comes with an expectation of teaching, scholarship and service that enriches the student experience and is aligned with our MATE vision and mission. The primary responsibilities include teaching at undergraduate through master's levels including in an interdisciplinary senior design course sequence, and developing innovative curricula in the area of computational modeling and simulation. Additional responsibilities include advising students, making contributions of service to the University and the profession, and engaging in externally supported scholarly work of nationally recognized quality. The successful candidate would have a primary home in the Materials Engineering Department, but would have a secondary home in a closely related engineering discipline that aligns with the interests and expertise of the candidate in order to promote interdisciplinary activities related to modeling and materials. The position is available starting fall 2019.

Candidates for the tenure-track faculty position are required to have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in materials science and engineering, or related field, by the time of appointment start date. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities in the computational materials area that is relevant to our vision and mission.
