About the Office: The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa employs 25 Assistant United States Attorneys. The District’s headquarters office is located in Des Moines. The District has staffed branch offices in Davenport and Council Bluffs, which serve the District’s eastern and western divisions.
Responsibilities and Opportunity Offered: The selected candidate will be assigned as a criminal prosecutor specializing in drug cases pursuant to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program. This program funds the employment of state or local prosecutors assigned to United States Attorney's Offices who prosecute cases in federal court. Accordingly, although the successful candidate will NOT be employed by the Department of Justice and instead will be employed as an Assistant Attorney General by the State of Iowa, the successful candidate will work full time in the United States Attorney's Office. HIDTA attorneys working in the Southern District of Iowa traditionally have prosecuted a full range of drug cases, including complex prosecutions involving significant drug trafficking organizations.
Travel: Occasional travel, both within and outside the District, may be required, including for training at the Department of Justice's National Advocacy Center.
Salary Information:The range of basic pay for this position is $50,980 - $98,259. The position is a 3 year term appointment.
Location: Successful applicant will physically work at the United States Attorney's office for the Southern District of Iowa but will be employed by the State of Iowa. The Southern District of Iowa includes within its boundaries the Iowa State Capitol, the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and Drake University. The district is bordered on the east by the Mississippi River and on the west by the Missouri River.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree from an accredited law school, be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of a State, territory, or the District of Columbia. Prosecution or criminal trial experience in federal court preferred.
