Catholic Charities Atlanta has several full-time attorney positions available in our Immigration Legal Services program. To be considered for one of the positions, candidates must be admitted to the bar of the highest court of any state or territory of the United States, with a preference for membership in the Georgia Bar. Fluency in Spanish is required, as well as prior experience or coursework in immigration law. Applicants must have the ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. One staff attorney based in our office in Atlanta, Georgia will have the primary duty of direct representation of low-income foreign nationals in both Immigration Court and before USCIS. Being a staff attorney at Catholic Charities Atlanta is an opportunity to be exposed to a wide variety of immigration cases in a short amount of time, including asylum, U visas, special immigrant juvenile status, family petitions, naturalization, and others. A second staff attorney based in Atlanta will work with immigrant survivors of crime on their immigration cases, with a focus on U visa applications and VAWA self-petitions. This attorney will also see a wide variety of cases in addition to the forms of relief that are based on the crime that they suffered. A third attorney is needed to fill a fellowship position with our Detention Orientation Program for a period of two years. This attorney will spend three days every other week in Ocilla, Georgia providing legal orientation to immigrants detained at Irwin County Detention Center. In those weeks, the attorney fellow will spend the night in Ocilla Monday through Thursday and then return to Atlanta on Thursday evening. On the alternating week, the attorney fellow will spend two days a week at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia. There will be no overnights for the Stewart days.
