Responsible for the collection and resolution of past due account receivables. Provides students and/or account holders with information and guidance on various account payment options. Negotiates specialized payment arrangements and advises on various payment options. Works toward full resolution. Works collaboratively and develops working relationships with students, university staff, and outside entities. Maintains thorough documentation, provides data and reports.
Functions as part of a team of Counseling/Collection Representatives in the Office of the University Bursar; advises and counsels debtors via phone, email, mail and face to face meetings; responsible for return check collections, department receivables, student loan collections and tuition and fee receivables; makes outbound collection calls; resolves delinquencies; negotiates payment arrangements; performs skip tracing activities; interacts with and supports multiple departments, regional campuses and professional colleges to resolve collection issues; serves as point of contact and works collaboratively with outside vendors including The Ohio Attorney General's Office, Special Counsel, Third Party Collection Vendors and Student Loan Servicer; identifies, reviews, analyzes and offers resolutions on individual accounts including detailed analysis of account history and solution options; must apply critical thinking and due diligence in account resolution; functions with a high degree of autonomy; responsible for reporting in various third party systems; resolves accounting or data errors; prepares information and documentation required for court; submits requests for account write offs; performs special duties as assigned; attends meetings and trainings; maintains an expert understanding of functionality in Peoplesoft SIS modules and the Student Loan System; assists in the training of student employees; handles sensitive and confidential information; maintains an advanced understanding of and ensures compliance with all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations and university policies; provides office coverage during operational hours; may work evenings and weekends.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; two years of experience in collections and/or financial counseling; strong knowledge and understanding of first party collections; must possess strong negotiation skills; understanding of fiduciary responsibility; ability to work with a diverse population of students and staff; exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills; detail oriented; must possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills; must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently, as well as, collaboratively to solve problems.
Peoplesoft Student Financials experience; knowledge and general understanding of university policies and procedures as it relates to delivery of services to students; experience with student loans and/or Higher Education portfolio.
Target Salary: $17.78 - $21.64 Hourly
