Job Overview: The Planning Associate works closely with the firm’s managing partner to design estate and asset protection strategies for the firm’s clients; works directly with the firm’s clients to customize and implement their estate and asset protection plans; oversees a staff of paralegals and support personnel to provide client services including document creation, client retitling recommendations, Medicaid and VA Aid & Attendance applications and estate/trust administration; and oversees the operations of the planning department to meet business goals and projections and to empower the planning staff. The Planning Associate positively represents the firm at all times through a success-oriented and professional demeanor.
This position requires supervision and training of legal assistants and coordination of paralegal hiring. This position requires substantial management time.

Job Specifications and Duties:
Design estate and asset protection strategies for clients and meet with the firm’s managing partner to review and confirm strategies.
Act as the firm’s primary attorney contact with clients for the customization and implementation of their plans including plan customization and operation, retitling, and benefit application preparation and prosecution.
Acting as the team leader to supervise and coordinate all of the planning, application, estate/trust administration, and customer service functions of the firm (not including litigation).
Delegate effectively and manage time wisely.
Collaborating daily with attorneys and co-workers to meet deadlines.
Responding to client, attorney and team member questions and inquiries within acceptable time frames.
Assess prospective clients’ needs and determine next steps.
Additional duties as assigned.

Reports to the Managing Partner but is also expected to coordinate efforts with the Office Manager.
J.D required. LLM in Elder Law a plus.
A mimum of three to five years elder law/medicaid planning/medicaid application experience. Some estate/trust adminstration experience a plus.
Member of the Virginia State Bar with no disciplinary record. Maryland State Bar a plus.
