Overview: Reporting to the head of the Recurrent Energy Legal team, the Senior Counsel will be responsible for advising on real estate-related legal issues as Recurrent Energy continues to expand its presence in the utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage markets throughout the U.S. The Senior Counsel will support the Sites, Permitting, Development, Construction, Finance, and M&A teams through the full cycle of Recurrent Energy’s solar development projects, including by reviewing site opportunities, securing land rights, advising on curing defects, assisting with permits and entitlements, managing lender and investor real estate due diligence, acting as the real estate legal representative in project financings, sales and M&A opportunities, and negotiating land sale transactions. He/she will interact with a variety of external counterparties, including but not limited to outside counsel, municipalities, contractual counterparties, acquisition targets and financing partners. The Senior Counsel will also have opportunities to work on non-real estate legal matters in solar development.
Company: Recurrent Energy is a leading utility-scale solar and energy storage project developer, delivering competitive, clean electricity to large energy buyers. Based in the U.S., Recurrent Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. and functions as Canadian Solar’s U.S. project development arm. Recurrent Energy has approximately 5 GW of solar and storage projects in development in the U.S.
Experience: The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of substantial legal experience (7+ years preferred) gained from a top tier law firm and/or corporate legal department. He/she must have experience leading real estate components of complex transactions and supervising junior attorneys and/or outside counsel. Substantial experience working on utility-scale, solar PV projects preferred.
Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
