The Peoria, AZ City Attorney's Office is currently seeking a highly motivated experienced senior litigation attorney with substantial government litigation and attorney supervision experience for the Civil Litigation Unit of the General Counsel Section.
This position manages the operations of the Litigation Unit of the General Counsel Section and makes policy, procedure, planning, and process decisions in order to achieve annual goals, objectives, and work standards under the general direction of the City Attorney.
This position may exercise direct and/or indirect supervision over Legal Specialist, Legal Assistant, Paralegal and Attorney members of the litigation unit. This position represents the City of Peoria in state and federal court cases at both the trial court and appellate levels such as §1983, negligence, employment, eminent domain, and election law cases. This position also acts as a legal advisor to all levels of City government and performs legal research. This position also exercises oversight of outside counsel.
This position requires a Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association accredited law school, a minimum of six years litigation experience, and membership in good standing in the State Bar of Arizona. Municipal law or other government experience, admission to the United States Supreme Court, and three or more years previous supervisory experience over other attorneys is preferred. The successful candidate will have, or obtain within three months of hire, admission to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (Litigation Assignment) and the US District Court for the District of Arizona (Litigation Assignment).
