The Privacy Analyst Sr. operates independently to conduct privacy investigations, to develop and maintain processes to ensure compliance with federal and state privacy laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance of the Office for Civil Rights, the Florida Attorney General's Office, and AdventHealth policies and procedures. The Sr. Privacy Analyst will assist in developing training material and other department guidance documents, conduct privacy training sessions to departments, conduct data analysis and contribute to special projects. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Ability to effectively communicate and obtain information from all levels of job classes within the system, and persons outside of the system such as patients, patients' family members, law enforcement officials, or regulators.
Ability to provide effective and understandable training to a wide audience, including translating complex privacy concepts into an easy to understand format.
Proficient writing skills demonstrated by through and concise presentations, reports, and other documents
Ability to work with a variety of software programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office and compliance monitoring and tracking systems such as Compliance 360 and FairWarning
Ability to interact and respond to requests from leadership, including developing processes to accomplish requested tasks
Adept at collaborating with other departments including operations, clinical, financial, and administrative
Ability to independently research and analyze complex healthcare compliance and regulatory subjects under federal and state laws.
Ability to manage and monitor progress of large projects and activities, prioritize work duties and complete tasks accurately and within strict legal deadlines.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of employees, patients and company information.
Ability to recognize a high standard of ethics in business operations
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare, or related field
Three years of experience in HIPAA privacy or related healthcare field
CHPC or CIPP certification-Preferred
Masters' degree in healthcare or a related field-Preferred
Familiarity with Cerner EMR and FairWarning access monitoring tool-Preferred
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Certification in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP)-Preferred
Demonstrates, through behavior, AdventHealth Orlando's service standards.
Conducts FairWarning privacy investigations that are related to potential inappropriate access by an employee who did not have a business need to access the medical record. Works closely with the employee's supervisor and Human Resources to complete the investigation.
Works independently to investigate privacy complaints (reports of potential non-compliance) and investigations submitted by AdventHealth workforce members (employees, volunteers, physicians, etc.) via the privacy inbox. Conducts a breach risk assessment for each investigation to determine if a HIPAA breach has occurred and follows the appropriate steps to complete the investigation per the HIPAA Privacy Regulations.
Performs privacy Training conducted weekly at Revenue Cycle New Employee Experience (NEE) and targeted training at the request of department managers or due to a privacy incident.
Maintains current knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and other state and federal laws that impact patient privacy (FHA conferences, webinars, articles) and contributes to Corporate Responsibility Department risk assessment activities.
Conducts privacy walkthroughs at each campus (includes the ED, Registration areas and other units) and submits a report of findings to the department supervisors.
Reviews research case studies submitted by residents and other employees who wish to write and publish a case study on a patient or group of patients to ensure the information is de-identified in accordance with the HIPAA Privacy Regulations.
Participates in miscellaneous HIPAA Privacy program projects that arise throughout the year.
