The Idaho State Tax Commission has an opportunity for a proven leader to join our team. We are seeking an individual with strategic vision who has experience putting innovation into action and creating a dynamic organizational culture. This position requires a strong background in federal and state tax laws, as well as accounting/audit principles and practices.
The successful candidate serves at the pleasure of the Idaho State Tax Commissioners and is a member of the agency's Executive Leadership Team.
Establish and administer the division's direction, goals and objectives consistent with the Tax Commission's Strategic Plan
Enforce laws governing audit of all administered taxes
Promote voluntary compliance
Oversee the hiring, training and directing professional and technical staff
Manage a division with a budget of approximately $13.1 million annually and oversee a Division staff of approximately 150 team members
Advise the Commissioners on the formulation of state tax and administrative policies, legislation, rules and tax administration and management strategies
Confer with other state agencies, legislators, attorneys, and accountants on audit
Represent the Commission in meetings with elected officials, representatives from various Idaho state agencies, federal and other state revenue agencies, and with the Federation of Tax Administrators
May conduct training seminars for staff, taxpayers, members of the Idaho Certified Public Accountant Society, and other tax professionals
Statewide and national travel is required
Considerable knowledge of Internal Revenue Service Code, Idaho state tax laws and regulations; accounting theory, principles and practices.
Good knowledge of state legislative processes.
Experience: managing professional or technical staff; researching, interpreting and applying complex tax laws and regulations; analyzing management and program problems, identifying alternatives and recommending and implementing solutions; planning and managing an operating budget; developing and implementing policies and procedures.
