The Lead Counsel, U.S. Global Health & Value, Global Drug Pricing, will be the primary support for U.S. GH&V matters. The Lead Counsel will be accountable for working in partnership with GH&V Business Unit leaders as well the HEOR leader to ensure a legally sound and strategically effective approach for demonstrating the value of Pfizer’s medicines and vaccines. This individual, along with the rest of the GH&V team will be expected to leverage knowledge and experience of relevant Legal Division functions, including coordinating with the Lead Counsel for International GH&V mattersand will be accountable for leading the GH&V international legal network to facilitate effective and proactive legal support to GH&V and to align legal strategies globally.
In addition, to being the U.S. GH&V Legal Lead, the individual will also be the lead attorney helping to coordinate initiatives relating to global drug pricing, including being the primary legal attorney supporting the Global Pricing Lead LT and will participate on the Global Pricing Committee and the US Pricing Subcommittee working closely with Corporate Affairs, Organized Customer Legal and other colleagues. As part of the Commercial Solutions Platform (CSP) Legal team, this role will participate on the CSP Legal Leadership team and will be expected to assist the CSP Legal Lead in carrying forward the vison of the CSP organization. Additionally, this role may be called upon to take on and manage other responsibilities and/ or individuals as needed.
Develop a strategic operating plan to ensure effective and pro-active legal expertise to GH&V
Maintain an effective legal network of GH&V lawyers and facilitate legal knowledge and capability enhancement
Support directly and indirectly transactional work stemming from GH&V client activities.
From a GH&V perspective, establish positive engagements with key external stakeholders that increase Pfizer’s ability to influence government access policies proactively in order to facilitate patient access to our medicines
Provide GH&V legal insight into initiatives relating to pharmaceutical pricing, including working closely with other colleagues to help develop Pfizer position on this issue.
JD or equivalent degree
Minimum 15 years of legal experience, preferably in a multi-national pharmaceutical; in-house legal experience is a plus
Demonstrated success navigating and operating within an international corporate environment
Excellent understanding of global patient access issues and law as it relates to the pharmaceutical sector
Relevant experience in healthcare law, current expertise in pricing and reimbursement
Knowledge of or strong awareness of the implications of the relevant governmental programs , agencies and the regulations governing such programs, including:Medicaid Drug Rebate Programs, Veteran’s Health Care Act, Public Health Services
effectively with senior management and a proven ability to understand and provide incisive and confidential advice on complex issues in an international context
Builds and maintains extensive networks externally, specifically with applicable government agencies,and internally throughout the Pfizer Legal Division and enterprise
Analytic, strategic and innovative thinker who anticipates threats or opportunities and applies a broad range of knowledge to develop creative and business focused legal advice and solutions, helping Pfizer achieve short and long term objectives
At least 10 years in-house legal experience at a biopharmaceutical company
Prior experience managing in-house legal teams
In-depth experience supporting business operations relating to government contracting and pricing
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to engage and interact at the executive level
Demonstrated leadership abilities
