Associate General Counsel
The Office of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel and the Wharton Schoolâ™s Aresty Institute of Executive Education is offering a full-time position for a transactional and business attorney as Associate General Counsel. This position provides legal counsel to the Wharton School and Whartonâ™s Executive Education program on the legal implications of transaction initiatives and strategies. The position includes drafting, reviewing, revising, and negotiating complex domestic and international contracts for programs delivered in-person as well as online, agreements, and other business documents to ensure compliance with law and University policy as it relates to employment, events management, course delivery, information and materials, technology, sponsorship, licenses, vendor/supplier relationships, organizational structure, and strategic transactions. The Associate General Counsel business attorney will provide counseling on issues of copyright, trademark, and right of publicity, training and partnering with clients to develop and implement certain Wharton and Wharton Executive Education program policies and initiatives, enforcing the Universityâ™s intellectual property rights, and evaluating new business partnerships with vendors and subcontractors. This role requires flexibility, creativity, strong contracting skills and an understanding of the academic perspective and environment.
Qualifications: J.D. from an accredited law school, with 5-7 yearsâ™ demonstrated experience as a practicing attorney with superior skills drafting and negotiating contracts and agreements, and the ability to independently handle transactions, and/or other legal matters. Background in performing due diligence and engaging in cross-functional and/or cross-disciplinary initiatives highly preferred. Must be admitted and in good standing in Pennsylvania or other state bar; admission to Pennsylvania Bar is required within one year of appointment. This position also requires strong critical thinking and strategic skills; excellent legal analysis and reasoning skills; proactive approach to problem solving; ability to be a team player; excellent attention to detail; willingness to engage in follow-through and closure of transactions; impeccable oral and written communication skills, including negotiation skills; superior organizational skills; ability to handle multiple priorities in a dynamically fluid environment; and the ability to identify, frame and solve complex legal issues creatively and to convey advice clearly and effectively.
This position has a co-reporting relationship to the Office of General Counsel and The Wharton Schoolâ™s Aresty Institute of Executive Education Program. The position resides at Office of General Counsel and daily activities of this position are directed by the General Counsel, in coordination with the Wharton School.
