Full Time; Career Starting Salary Range: $90,000-$110,000/annually. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Involves advising on intellectual property (IP) rights protection, business startup and other technology transfer related issues. Evaluates the commercial potential of research results, obtains and manages the appropriate IP rights protection, markets inventions and software, and/ or biological/ tangible materials; drafts and negotiates, and manages IP licenses and Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), and advises on IP terms in research and collaboration agreements. Supports companies who wish to sponsor research and/ or license technologies. Facilitates administration of federal and state laws regarding research, conflict of interest, IP, contracts and employment. Works with outside patent attorneys to file patent applications.
The Licensing Officer manages IP licensing programs that enhance research and technology transfer opportunities, fosters partnerships around services and support, and promotes collaborations that are mutually beneficial to both industry and the University. The Licensing Officer manages the full spectrum of IP licensing transactions through strong technology license agreements between UC Santa Cruz and our industry stakeholders. The Licensing Officer works closely with the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) with regard to licensing policies and other matters.
The Licensing Officer must be adaptable, dynamic, enthusiastic, energetic and ready to do what the task requires to ensure UC Santa Cruz meets and exceeds the expectations of its stakeholders. Must be a business professional experienced in the development and negotiation of contractual agreements, a strategic thinker and self-driven. This position would be of interest to someone who wishes to work in contract development and administration at a not-for-profit, technology commercialization organization and be involved in a complex, dynamic and diverse environment.
The Industry Alliances & Technology Commercialization (IATC) office at the UC Santa Cruz is responsible for supporting campus needs pertaining to all intellectual property (IP), licensing, industry engagement, and innovation & entrepreneurship (l & E) programming, including requests that require strategic and operational decisions such as assertion of Regents' IP rights, managing researcher conduct in handling IP, supporting Academic Personnel in matters pertaining to faculty external appointments, IP lawsuits, and all other matters pertaining to IP created by UC Santa Cruz personnel.

Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or related fields.
At least five years of experience in negotiating technology partnerships.
At least five years of contract negotiation and administration.
At least three years in a university technology transfer/ licensing office.
Proven ability to apply, interpret and implement complex legal, policy, technical and business concepts in diverse multi-faceted situations and to use mature judgement in resolving related issues and problems.
