Under general direction of the Assistant Vice Provost, Academic Personnel, this position provides strategic guidance and support directly to the Campus Provost/ Executive Vice Chancellor, Chancellor, Deans, Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, Campus Counsel, and other senior administrators on academic employee relations, collective bargaining, and policy matters.
Coordinate, consult on, or oversee the campus response to allegations of misconduct that senate and non-senate academic employees have engaged in, including discrimination, abusive conduct, and other violations of the Faculty Code of Conduct and University policy.
Serve as a liaison to the Office of General Counsel or contracted attorneys and others related to discipline and grievance cases. Prepare detailed reports and draft materials that support the Chancellor's disciplinary decisions. Liaise with the Academic Senate Committee on Privilege and Tenure.
In coordination with campus and systemwide Labor Relations, assist in the representation of management in arbitrations of grievances filed pursuant to collective bargaining agreements. Provide analysis of management positions in preparation for bargaining.
Oversee development, implementation, and interpretation of university policies and procedures related to academic employee corrective action and dismissal, grievances, complaints, conflict management, and layoff. Participate in workgroups to develop and revise related systemwide policies and frameworks.
Develop and deliver training, informational, and educational programs designed to increase the staff and academic leadership's understanding and awareness of relevant laws, policies, and practices related to human resources in a higher education setting.
Manage sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner and according to organization policy.
