The Fashion Law Institute is the world’s first center dedicated to law and the business of fashion. A nonprofit organization created with the generous support and advice of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and its then-president, Diane von Furstenberg, and headquartered at Fordham Law School, the Institute offers training for the fashion lawyers and designers of the future, provides free legal services for design students and professionals, and shares information and assistance on issues facing the fashion industry.
Coordinate events and activities sponsored by the Institute, including educational programs, pro bono activities, and an annual symposium;
Serve as contact person and advisor for enrolled students interested in fashion law, including students in the JD, LLM, and MSL programs;
Serve as liaison for adjunct faculty teaching fashion-law-related courses;
Respond to inquiries regarding the Institute from attorneys, fashion industry professionals, members of the media, students, prospective students, event participants, and others;
Review applications for Fashion Law LLM and MSL degree programs;
Manage applications and registrations for Institute programs and events;
Assist in maintenance of Institute website;
Maintain Institute mailing list;
Make appropriate arrangements for event venues, audio-visual support, registration, catering, gifts, travel, and accommodations for event participants; occasional early morning or evening availability prior to Institute events.
Collect and organize event materials;
Maintain financial records for event-related expenses;
Coordinate with other offices and departments at Fordham University as requested by the Director of the Institute;
Assist the Director in scheduling and other matters related to the Institute; and
Provide regular reports to the Director of the Institute.
Bachelor's Degree required, or in lieu of the degree, 4+ years of related experience required
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (required);
Knowledge of additional applications such as Adobe Photoshop (preferred), as well as ability to learn new applications easily;
Familiarity with website maintenance;
Event coordination and management skills and experience, including ability to handle unforeseen needs or changes quickly, calmly, and effectively;
Ability to communicate with and advise students;
Ability to communicate cordially and effectively with the public, both orally and in writing;
Professionalism and discretion in communications regarding the Institute, including its fashion industry supporters and guests;
Ability to work independently and to coordinate regularly with a team.
