The Business & Competitive Intelligence Analyst reports to the Business & Competitive Intelligence Manager and can be based in the firm’s Atlanta, Richmond or Charlotte office. The Analyst will conduct in-depth research and analysis of companies, sectors, practice areas, geographic markets, technologies and competitors using a comprehensive variety of online research tools. The Analyst will develop insightful and actionable intelligence to aid in strategic decision-making and drive business development, profitability, growth, prospective/client retention and other business opportunities. The Business & Competitive Intelligence team is a critical function of the firm, and the Analyst must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate must have strong written, analytical, and project management skills, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide in-depth research on competitors, clients, prospects, markets and industries to support firm-wide marketing and business development initiatives
Analyze internal business intelligence on clients, matters and industries served to uncover trends and identify opportunities
Leverage internal and external data to identify opportunities for business expansion
Ability to synthesize relevant information needed for high-level and business development decision-making, and ability to succinctly communicate research findings in a clear and concise manner, with an emphasis on written communication
Provide information strategy coaching to the business development team and lawyers to leverage market and client intelligence for business development
Provide training and advice to business development staff on research sources and methodologies
Develop and support interactive dashboard applications used by attorneys, clients, and staff via Power BI and Tableau
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Four-year degree required, with a course of study in business, finance or marketing a plus
Law firm or professional services firm experience is preferred
Ability to quickly develop proficiency in new information resources; experience with corporate databases such as ALM Legal Compass, S&P Capital IQ, D&B, Pitchbook, Lex Machina, Monitor Suite a plus
Strong analytical and research skills, experience working in complex databases and advanced knowledge of PowerPoint, and Excel; Knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, and SharePoint a plus
Experience with complex analytics such as using dashboards, visualizations, predictive analysis, and data mining a plus
Ability to maintain professionalism and build relationships with clients, lawyers, internal departments and vendors, while respecting confidentiality
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards for research quality
EDUCATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
College degree required and at least three (3) years of marketing or research experience, preferably in a legal or professional services firm, or any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Experience in data visualization and reporting, data engineering, and data governance (metadata, lineage, data quality) a plus.
