Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking two experienced public interest law firm coordinators (one for each Law School location – Newark & Camden). Reporting directly to the Managing Attorney. The Program Coordinator II will provide legal services to victims of violent crime in New Jersey. The duties include but not limited to; -Manages the work of the Rutgers Law Associates fellows on either the Camden or the Newark location and provide direct service in some of these cases. -Performs intake functions, prioritize and assign cases referred for intake. -Conducts initial fact gathering and research support activities. -Tracks cases and outcome and assist attorneys with other case related activities as needed. -Enters data into and maintain the case management system used by the project and will assist in creating project related reports. -The program coordinator must maintain familiarity with court rules and VOCA regulations, and will serve as a liaison with other agencies and community organizations to develop a referral network for cases. The position could be based at either the Camden or Newark locations of Rutgers Law School, however, travel to the other campus will be required. Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of program coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exemplary professional, administrative, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills required. Excellent oral and written proficiency required, as well as strong organizational abilities required. Some evening hours and travel required.
Experience in domestic violence and related family law litigation preferred. Experience in a legal services or low-bono environment working with domestic violence victims is essential to being able to manage the intake and billing, for this special clientele, as well as in the oversight capacity of less experienced fellows .
