NAPABA is seeking a highly skilled association professional to oversee the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board of Governors, this seasoned leader is responsible for advancing the mission and vision of NAPABA while ensuring financial growth, ethical integrity, and relevant service to the APA legal community.
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
The executive director will manage and develop a staff of six employees and supervise a team of outside consultants. Key responsibilities include resource development and maintenance; policy and program development and implementation; community and public relations; fiscal management; and coordination with the Board of Governors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Board Governance: Work with the Board to fulfill NAPABA’s mission.
Lead NAPABA’s operations in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Governors.
Communicate effectively with the Board and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of NAPABA’s work.
Financial Performance and Viability: Develop and maintain resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of NAPABA.
Direct fundraising and develop other revenues necessary to support NAPABA’s mission.
Prepare and submit to the Board a proposed annual budget and quarterly financial statements that accurately reflect the financial condition of NAPABA.
Manage NAPABA’s finances in a manner that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget and ensures maximum resource utilization.
Organization Mission and Strategy: Work with Board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.
Direct the implementation of programs that carry out NAPABA’s mission.
Engage in strategic planning to ensure that NAPABA can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
Enhance NAPABA’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations.
Organization Operations: Oversee and implement appropriate resources to ensure consistent achievement of NAPABA’s mission and financial operations.
Hire and retain competent, qualified staff.
Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place.
Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Develop policies and procedures that result in consistent, high quality services to NAPABA’s members, sponsors and related organizations.
Review and approve all notes, contracts, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into on the behalf of NAPABA.
Membership: Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the fields of membership recruitment, engagement and communications.
Expand and retain NAPABA’s membership by developing strategic programming and communications to draw young professionals, law students, and attorneys in diverse practice settings nationwide.
Leverage the expanding membership to develop and implement highly creative fundraising initiatives.
Plan for the future through the introduction of new programs and services in response to the needs of members and stakeholders.
Maintain and strengthen relationships with NAPABA affiliates and encourage affiliate members to activate NAPABA membership.
Five or more years’ senior nonprofit management experience
Bachelor’s degree required; JD preferred
Transparent and high integrity leadership
Experience and skill in working with a Board of Governors
High-level strategic thinking and planning.
Ability to envision and convey NAPABA’s strategic future to the staff, Board, volunteers, members, and sponsors
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
History of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results
Active fundraising experience and understanding of sponsorship relations
Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy
