Student Legal Services, part of the Division of Student Life at the University of Iowa, is seeking an Assistant Attorney to assist the supervising attorney and director in providing legal services to University of Iowa students. The Assistant Attorney will also guide law students in their clinical work and ensure obligations to the judicial process. The primary focus of this position will be on immigration and tenant-landlord issues with other cases as needed. This position will also assist with the development and presentation of outreach programming to educate University students in areas such as landlord-tenant law, criminal law, and other areas of law.

This is a specified term position through June 30, 2022. (This specified term of appointment is to not exceed the period designated and is assured of funding only through the date indicated, June 30, 2022. Juris Doctor degree awarded by an accredited law school.
Admitted to practice law in the State of Iowa and in good standing with the Iowa Supreme Court or ability to be admitted to practice law in the State of Iowa on motion or by transfer of UBE score.
Experience (typically 1 - 3 years) in the practice of civil and criminal law including litigation.
Ability to read, use strong research skills, interpret, and draw accurate conclusions from legal and factual information.
Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals.
Computer experience using standard office system: Microsoft Office and Outlook.
Work experience representing clients on landlord-tenant issues.
Work experience advising and representing clients on immigration issues, including family-based immigration.
Work experience providing legal instruction to law students.
Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques; ability to present educational programs on legal issues to groups with the appropriate degree of formality.
Ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships within a shared office environment, including university or college students.
Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.
